About Us
Our Mission
ABC Gym Kids is clean, compact and top notch in it’s instruction and care of children. The most important part of gymnastics for us is to BE SAFE — and that means emotionally, as well as physically.
I started gymnastics when I was 5 years old. My coach and mentor, Lee Kennett, was gentle and kind and funny — and some how I learned gymnastics when I went to his school. I thought I was just having a great old time and all of a sudden I was able to do really great cartwheels and handstands...I was the envy of every kid on the playground, swinging on the bars and rings like a monkey.
How did he DO that? Well, after years of participation in the sport, and even more years of teaching it to others, I went to college to find out. A teacher had been born in me and I set out get my degree. College, in all of its importance, would never give to me what Lee so humbly and easily did...and that was love — pure and simple. He recognized in me and reflected back to me, the beauty and wonder of being a child. I was important because I was a kid. And I could do stuff. And that was amazing.
I soon realized that what was important to me was to teach what was immediately relevant and useful to a child. I mean, what good does Christopher Columbus do you in first grade, REALLY? Children want to move their bodies with confidence, they want to be challenged and held accountable and encouraged along the way. Every child longs to hear the truth of the words, “I can do it!” come from their own inner most selves.
At ABC Gym Kids we have an expectation of excellence from each of our participants. ABC Gym Kids is a place where you are wanted to show up and shine - to show us your stuff - to pull out your best. Because it’s in there - because we can see it and because we know you want to.
Our mission is to be safe, to have fun and to learn gymnastics. The secret that we know, is that there is SO MUCH MORE than that going on here. We are participating in each others lives. And here at ABC Gym Kids, we undertake to do that joyfully — with skill and care and confidence — every single day.
Come Play!
